You can keep up to date with all the latest news from Halifax Intermediaries using RSS news feeds.

News feeds, also known as Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, are a very simple and convenient way for us to deliver new website content to you, without your actually having to visit our site, or use search engines and web directories.

This means you'll be kept up-to-date, because as soon as a new news item is published, your chosen news reader will display the headline message, then all you need to do is click on it to read the full article(s).

Any number of news feeds from different websites (such as the BBC or various online financial publications) can be added to your news reader - all you need to do is look for this little orange icon. Rss Feeds

What's a news reader?

The little orange icon you can see above is usually used to identify RSS news feeds. However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To read the news feed properly, you need an RSS news reader - a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new items that have been added. Headlines of the news items are displayed, usually with a brief summary included. The headline then links to the full article on our website.

News readers allow you to add the web address of the news feeds you are interested in. Once this is added, the news reader will display the information. From then on, as soon as we add news items to our website, your news reader will automatically update the links viewed on your page.

Finding a news reader

There are a number of free or low-cost online, desktop, mobile and Outlook-based news readers available to choose from. These work in slightly different ways:

  • With web-based readers such as NewsGator or iGoogle, you set up a log-in account and can then access your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer.
  • Applications such as NewzCrawler can be downloaded and installed, and will then be launched when you're using your personal computer.
  • Some readers such as Attensa integrate with Microsoft Outlook and the Mozilla Firefox browser has a built-in RSS news reader.

What to do next

  1. Choose the news reader you want to use (the bullet points above will give you a starting point - or you can Google "news readers")
  2. Either download and install it on your computer or sign-up for an account (if choosing a web-based news feeder)
  3. Copy the URL of the news feed that you want to use (Halifax URL - http://www.halifax-intermediaries.co.uk/rss.ashx)
  4. Paste that URL into the 'Add New Channel' section of the reader

Now you're all set to receive our latest news!
